Publications- a monthly "CSI Communications" a. Individual Members will receive CSI Communications and Computer Science and Informatics free of charge. b. Student Members will receive CSI Communications and CSI Adhyayan free of charge. c. Institutional Nominees will receive CSI Communications and Institutions will receive Computer Science and Informatics free of charge. Besides the activities held at the Chapter, and Student Branches the Society also conducts periodic conferences, seminars at Regional and Divisional levels. The Society conducts biannually a National Standard Test for Programming Competence (NSTPC) both at the entry level and advanced level. In addition it also holds National Standard Test in advanced Modules like Systems Analysis and Designs, Data Communication and Networking, Operating System Principles and Data Base Management Systems The Society has now been entrusted with the responsibility of a program of accreditation of private sector institutions and conducting examination for 'O' and 'A' levels by the Department of Electronics, Government of India. An important activity of the Computer Society of India is its Annual convention with appropriate themes which get highlighted through theme sessions and keynote addresses. Alongside the convention, the society also conducts an exhibition which endeavours to bring in the Manufacturers and Systems Developers to exhibit their wares to the professionals at the Conventions. The Society organises various panel discussions and the result are compiled so that they can be projected as the views of CSI at appropriate forums. The Computer Society of India represents the Indian community in the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) since 1974. The Society has representatives in all the Technical Committees and some of the Working Groups of IFIP and has also organised IFIP sponsored events and conferences in India. The "CSI Digest" publication keeps member up-to-date on all IFIP matters nationally and internationally. The Society is also a member of the South East Asian Regional Computer Conference (SEARCC) since 1976. CSI selects students each year to participate in the International Software Programming Competition for students organised as a part of South East Asian Annual Regional Computer Conference. The Society has reciprocal membership arrangement with the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Australian Computer Society (ACS). The Society is responsible for selection of candidates in India for the Centre for International Co-operation of Computerisation (CICC) training courses in Japan. In addition to these courses members of the Society can participate in the computerisation essay contests of CICC, the details of which are periodically announced in the CSI communications. The Government has also entrusted the Computer Society of India with task of training the handicapped so as to provide career opportunities for the blind in Computer related activities. |
