About Trivandrum Chapter

Chapter Formation

The activities of the Computer Society of India started in the city of Trivandrum with the annual convention of Computer Society of India CSI 69 in January 1969 on the theme topic 'Training in Software'. About 450 delegates took part in this convention. The full credit of organising CSI 69 could be given to Sri. J.T.George and his people of the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station. Sri.SR.Thakore of PRL, Ahmedabad also was instrumental in hosting this event at Trivandrum.
The CSI 69 was the pace setter of computer activities in a coordinated manner in Trivandrum. The computer enthusiasts in the city and other parts of Kerala started efforts to have a chapter of the Computer Society of India based at Trivandrum to foster their interests and to propagate the objectives of CSI. With a membership of over forty, thus the 11th chapter of CSI came into being with Dr.D.S.Rane, then Head of the Computer Division in 1976. Mr.K.Thanappan Nair of the Government Data Processing Centre was the founder Secretary of the Chapter. The Chapter was officially inaugurated on 25th June 1976 by Sri.F.C.Kohli, the President of CSI.

Chapter Byelaws

The CSI Trivandrum chapter follows the guidelines of the CSI byelaws for the smooth conduct of the activities of the chapter.

Chapter Office

With the financial assistance from CSI Headquarters, the Trivandrum Chapter could acquire office premises consisting of an office room and a lecture hall located in the heart of the city. The premises is equipped with necessary infrastructure including eight Personal Computers for its Training Programs. The Chapter is now trying to set up a library of computer books and periodicals.

Best Chapter Award

In recognition of the consistently continuing commendable activities, the CSI Trivandrum Chapter won twice the Best Chapter Award (South) instituted by the Computer Society of India in 2009-2010, 1991-92 and 1999-2000

Best Student Chapter Award

Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Students Chapter won the prestigious Best Student Chapter Award for the years 2010-2011 and 2009-2010.

Karunagappally Students Chapter won Best Student Chapter Award for the year 1993-94.

Role Of CSI in The Governance

CSI Trivandrum chapter took a pioneer role in voicing the opinion of the professional community towards the recently published IT policy of Government of Kerala. In the wake of this, Government of Kerala had entrusted the task of preparing a Web Portal for the Government. The Web Portal was formally inaugurated on 31/05/1999 by the Chief Minister of Kerala.

Wednesday's Technical Meetings

CSI Trivandrum Chapter, in association with the other sister professional bodies viz. IEEE, IETE & IE(I) organises a Technical Talk on every Wednesday, on topics of interest to the professionals of the city. These Wednesday's programs are always well attended and well appreciated by the professionals of these bodies. Trivandrum is credited with this uniqueness of holding such programs jointly by the four major professional bodies of National and International repute.
